ORKA IN DINGOLFING 020For an interesting article on the 2011 Meisterschaft Competition – written by John Swartz and published in the KUSA magazine – please CLICK HERE.

ORKA QUALIFIED FOR HIS IPO3 ON FRIDAY THE 20TH OF APRIL 2012. HIS HANDLER, MELANIE HAD A BABY TWO WEEKS BEFORE – QUITE REMARKABLE HEY!! THE SCORES WERE IMPRESSIVE IF YOU ASK ME – THEY ARE AS FOLLOWS: TRACKING 85, OBEDIENCE 86 AND PROTECTION 90.

Meeting Orka Vom Vilstalerland – JULY 2011

I was lucky enough to win a stunning prize with Royal Canin – a trip to Paris and the to finals of the World Dog Show – needless to say, a great time was had by all!
After saying Au Revoir to the city of lights, I travelled to Dingolfing to go and meet my boy Orka, bred by the famous Von Vilstaler Land kennels, and previously owned by Ulli and Michael of Von Brandauerweg Rottweilers in Austria. Ulli and Michael travelled to Dingolfing to meet me, and we went to the Hopfenspringer homestead together.

Bond vom Brandauerweg was bred and owned by Ulli and Michael, so needless to say we have had much correspondence over the years, and it was a real priveledge to finally meet them, and of course also to shed a tear and reminisce about our Bond.
Orka and Bond are cousins – Bond’s mother is Diva von Vilstalerland, and Orka’s father is Djuke von Vilstalerland – it is on the strength of this relationship that I snatched up the opportunity to buy Orka.
Of course I was already in love, but when Orka came tearing around the corner and greeted his previous owners with such typical rottie love – and when I also got a big lick as an introductory greeting, well, let’s just say that the love affair started in earnest!
If you would like to follow THIS LINK you will find all Orka’s pedigree information etc.

ORKA FINALLY ARRIVED ON THE 16TH OF MAY 2012 ON FLIGHT SA 265 FROM MUNICH – WE WATCHED THE TRAVELLING CRATE COMING FROM FAR AWAY – FROM THE BACK OF THE HUGE CARGO TERMINAL AT SA AIRWAYS. I CAN ASSURE YOU THAT IT IS A VERY EMOTIONAL MOMENT WHEN YOUR DOG IS FINALLY REALLY THERE!

ON THE FIRST AFTERNOON WE WENT FOR OUR FIRST WALK ON THE FARM IN SOUTH AFRICA – HELOUISE FROM AFGRI, JOCK DOG FOOD, ARMED WITH A CAMERA OF COURSE, ACCOMPANIED US. WE WERE ABLE TO TAKE A COUPLE OF GOOD CASUAL PHOTOGRAPHS WHICH I POSTED ON FACEBOOK – ONLY TO BE TOLD BY THE EXPERTS THAT MY PHOTOS ARE NOT GOOD ENOUGH AND THAT WE NEED A PROPER PHOTO SHOOT!!

SO ON THE SATURDAY AFTER HE ARRIVED, FRIENDS, FAMILY AND BREEDERS (ARMED WITH PROPER CAMERAS) ARRIVED – AFTER LUNCH ALL THE HIGH TECH STUFF CAME OUT AND THE BEAUTIFUL PHOTOS YOU SEE HERE WERE TAKEN. THANK YOU MOST ESPECIALLY TO LIDA HEYDEN OF VON HEYDENHEIM ROTTWEILERS FOR HER PHOTOGRAPHIC CONTRIBUTIONS!!

I CAN TELL YOU THAT ORKA IS A FANTASTIC COMPANION DOG – HE WAS THE DOG IN THE HOUSE OF ULRIKE AND MICHAEL IN GERMANY, SO HE KNOWS HOW TO “LIVE INSIDE” – I AM LOVING HAVING HIM WITH ME AND WE ARE SLOWLY INTRODUCING HIM TO ALL THE GIRLS. I AM NOT EXACTLY SURE WHAT THE FUTURE HOLDS WITH RESPECT TO IPO TRIALS ETC – AM GOING TO TAKE IT SLOW AND ONE DAY AT A TIME. I HAVE THOUGHT THAT I WOULD LIKE TO PARTICIPATE AND CONTRIBUTE – COMPETING IS NOT REALLY FOR ME!

**************************************************************************

Despite our very best efforts, we lost our boy to complications from Cancer treatment – Cancer caused by the devastating effects of the Spirocerca Lupi worm.  My only consolation is his three daughters Quest, Quincy and Sabie and his two sons Oscar and Oliver – I see his adoring looks in their faces and their gentle loving natures are a testimony to what a Rottweiler should be.  I cannot find the words to describe the heartbreak of losing this incredible Boy.
